The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s online Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program is designed for advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) with a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).

The online MSN to DNP program blends core courses with experiential learning opportunities. Students explore the role of economics, finance, public policy, organizational leadership, systems change and advocacy in health care. They graduate ready to enact impactful change and facilitate high-quality care as leaders in the field.

COURSEWORK HIGHLIGHTS

During the online MSN to DNP program, students complete:

  • Approximately 500 residency hours
  • An on-campus immersion each semester, or as scheduled
  • Asynchronous coursework for student convenience 
  • An evidence-based practice DNP project

Admission to UNC Nursing remains selective to ensure high-quality educational experiences and program outcomes. Each application undergoes a holistic assessment. Note that meeting the minimum requirements below does not ensure admission into the program.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

  • License to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina 
  • Master’s of science in nursing required, with a GPA of at least 3.25
  • Verification of precepted clinical hours
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Professional statement
